How to Draw a Scarecrow

Start the lessonStage 1: Build the Framework
Draw a vertical centerline, an oval head, and a rectangular torso with long horizontal rectangles for the arms. Add two long ovals for the legs. Block in the hat with a tapered crown and a wide oval brim.
Stage 2: Shapes
Curve the torso and arms into a loose shirt with a round neckline and oval sleeve openings. Refine the rounded trouser legs and soften the hat crown. Outline the narrow support post below the body and above the hat.
Stage 3: Add the Scarecrow Details
Add round eyes, a triangular nose, a stitched smile, and straw beneath the wavy hat brim. Draw the collar, knotted neck cloth, buttons, patches, and ragged shirt edges. Add clothing folds, tied straw bundles at the wrists and ankles, and crossbar ends beyond the sleeves.
Stage 4: Finish the Pencil Drawing
Erase the remaining guides and add stitches around the patches, fine straw strands, and wood grain along the supports. Shade the face, hat, and clothing, deepening shadows beneath the brim and inside the folds. Darken the eyes and buttons, and add a small ground shadow beneath the post to complete the sketch.
