How to Draw a Flower

Start the lessonStage 1: Place the Flower
Sketch a large tilted oval for the bloom and a smaller oval inside for its center. Draw a gently curved stem extending downward. Place two narrow leaf ovals beside it, one higher on the left and one lower on the right.
Stage 2: Shapes
Replace the outer bloom oval with broad, rounded petal shapes around the center. Give the stem two clear edges and a small cup beneath the bloom. Shape the leaves into pointed forms that join the stem.
Stage 3: Refine the Petals
Refine the broad shapes into narrower petals, adding extra petals behind them and short petals hanging in front. Add light curved lines along the petals and small notches at their tips. Draw a central vein through each leaf.
Stage 4: Finish the Pencil Drawing
Texture the raised center with small rounded marks, shading its lower edge. Add fine lengthwise strokes to the petals and deepen shadows where they overlap. Finish the stem and leaves with pencil shading and branching leaf veins.
